Privacy Policy
Metis · Last updated: October 22, 2026
Metis is a desktop tool that runs on the user's own computer. This policy explains what Google user data Metis accesses, how it is used, where it goes, and how to remove it.
1. Data Metis accesses
- Gmail (
gmail.modify): message headers (sender, recipients, subject, date), snippets and plain-text bodies of messages, and your labels — to classify messages, to find emails related to an upcoming meeting, and to summarize your sent mail and job-application emails for your own daily log and job digest. - Gmail (
gmail.send): used only to send Metis's own emails. Briefings, the weekly review and the job digest go only to your own address. If you set up the AI news digest for other people you choose (for example, a family member), Metis also sends that digest to them. The news digest contains only public news, never anything from your mailbox or calendar. Metis never sends, forwards or replies to your existing mail. - Google Calendar (
calendar.readonly): titles, times, locations, descriptions and attendees of your events — to decide when a briefing is due and what it should cover. Metis cannot change your calendar.
2. How the data is used
Only to provide the features you set up: adding labels to your messages, emailing you pre-meeting briefings, a weekly review and a weekday job digest, and writing a daily log of your work into your own notes. Metis only adds labels; it does not delete, archive, move or modify message content.
3. Where the data goes
- Your computer. Metis runs locally. OAuth tokens, a small record of which messages and events were already processed, and usage logs are stored only in the Metis folder on your computer.
- No Metis servers. The developer does not operate any server for Metis and never receives, stores or has access to your Google data.
- Your AI model provider. To classify an email or write a briefing, Metis sends the relevant excerpt (for example sender, subject and snippet, or event details and related email text) to the AI model you have configured — currently Anthropic's Claude, through the Claude Code application signed in with your own Anthropic account. That processing is governed by your agreement with Anthropic. Briefings may also run web searches about external meeting attendees and their companies using public information.
- Your own notes (optional). If you enable them, the weekly review and the daily log are written as files into a notes folder on your computer that you choose, and the job digest keeps application-status notes in that folder up to date.
Metis does not sell Google user data, does not use it for advertising, and does not share it with anyone other than the AI provider described above for the purpose of providing the features.
4. Google API Services User Data Policy — Limited Use
Metis's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs to any other app will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. In particular:
- Google user data is used only to provide or improve the user-facing features described above.
- It is transferred to others only as necessary to provide those features (the AI model processing described in section 3), to comply with applicable law, or as part of a merger or acquisition with notice to users.
- It is not used or transferred for serving advertisements, including retargeting or personalized ads.
- No human reads your Google data, except with your explicit consent for specific messages, for security purposes, to comply with law, or when the data is aggregated and anonymized for internal operations.
- Google user data is not used to develop, improve or train generalized AI or machine-learning models.
5. Retention and deletion
Everything Metis keeps lives in its folder on your computer. You can stop Metis at any time and delete that folder to remove all locally stored data. You can revoke Metis's access to your Google account at any time at myaccount.google.com/permissions. Labels Metis added remain in your Gmail until you remove them.
6. Security
Tokens and settings are stored in files readable only by your macOS user account. Connections to Google and to the AI provider use HTTPS.
7. Changes and contact
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new date. Questions: [email protected].
