The problem
Asset managers spent their weeks on the same chores: onboarding a new property, uploading rent rolls, collecting periodic financials and writing monthly performance reviews. Critical dates lived in people’s heads and inboxes.
I joined as the first product manager, hired to sit between the investment team and engineering.
What I built
Task manager
My first feature, designed from shadowing asset managers. It turns critical dates and loan obligations into recurring tasks and reminders.
Rent roll checks
Rent rolls are extracted from PDF, pass a human review gate, then get compared with last month’s version. Every change is flagged in red and must be confirmed before it enters the system.
Client portal
A version for an institutional investor, with permissions that decide exactly what each client can see.
How I worked
Interviews and shadowing with asset managers and loan servicing, then PRDs, user stories and acceptance criteria. I validated wireframes with partners and end users before any engineering started.
For the client portal release I proposed a waterfall plan instead of sprints: the scope was fixed and the client needed a firm date, so predictability mattered more than iteration.
Outcome
Reading loan documents to set up obligation tracking was the slowest part of onboarding. Automating that work grew into a second product, Notessa AI.
